Cardinal Pacelli’s math program is committed to the basics of mathematical computation and understanding, and is constantly evolving to enable us to stretch the abilities of our students. We work to establish a very solid mathematical base, and then build on this in many ways.
Students in grades four, five and six participate in the Math Renaissance Program. Through this they are able to work ahead at their own pace – studying a concept, and then moving on when testing shows the concept has been mastered. Eighth grade students study and greatly benefit from an Algebra 1 curriculum. Additionally, our Math Enrichment Program enables mathematically advanced students to participate in math studies outside of the classroom.
Our commitment to establishing a strong mathematical base of rote facts and methods is tempered by a focus on problem solving and critical thinking. We feel that developing these skills at every level challenges our students and thoroughly enhances their future learning potential.
